BEA Workshop 3.0: Moves fast after acquiring M7

Speaking of tools, BEA is wasting no time putting things in motion after its recent acquisition of Eclipse toolmaker, M7. BEA has just rebranded the powerful NitroX package as BEA Workshop 3.0, which should put to rest any lingering doubts about the central role Eclipse will play in BEA’s future tools offerings. Here’s what Carlos Chang had to say on the TSS forums, “NitroX is joining the BEA Workshop family. The original Workshop product is currently evolving to be eclipse based as was demonstrated in recent BEA World events. Since NitroX is also eclipse based, you can connect the dot's into 2006 for the family reunion. ;-)” I’m sure that very few of you will be surprised to hear there’s a free version available for JavaServer Pages, even though BEA Workshop 3.0 versions will retail from $499 to $899. For those of you that want more details, I encourage you to read Bill Roth’s blog entry on BEA Workshop 3.0 and the blended environment. It’s pretty intriguing stuff, and Bill goes just one step short of telling us to watch for BEA to step beyond the Java space someday soon. The Ruby train keeps on gathering steam.
